Is Cross country running too much for me?

I want to try out for track in the winter, and I think I'll be really good at it because I can run short distances really fast. In the meantime I'm going to join the cross country team to start getting in shape. However, I don't have any stamina. Whenever I try to run for a longer distance I have to stop and walk for a while. But, I haven't acutally been running in over 5 months...maybe once I get into running my stamina will improve? What do you think?

If you haven't been running for 5 months, then I'm sure once you start running again your stamina will improve. I think it's a great idea to do cross country to start getting into shape for the track season.

You'll see once you've been running everyday for cross country practices that the long distances won't feel so difficult. Just takes a little time, that's all!! Good luck!
Reply:indiegirl, wow you must be from Indianapolis i dont live far then lol.

well anyways i used to be a major in running well when that happens you need to build your body off of water cut down on junk foods and cokes dont eat nothing salty before practice trust me it wil twist your stomach.

Just drink lots of water because water is H20 or how people call it "element that brings life" water cools you down if you bnuild yourself up with that even on off times and keep up the practice your body will just adjust really fine. Im not talking about a cup either a cup quickly burns off just gotta get your body in position in it.

Your body will have water and you begin to sweat and your body cools itself from all sweat so that works. But your body has to have alot of water in it.

EXERCISE FIRST BEFORE RUNNING!
Reply:I've been training for CX over the summer and I have asthma and have never run long distances before. I'm not doing great by CX standards but Im not doing terrible either. I run about 2.5-3 miles a day and trying to get up to four. You can do it, just believe in yourself and have fun.
Reply:remember training can only go so far, yes you better times and in shape, but its running is all about confidence and knowing you can beat someone. You have to want it. When you approach the starting line i can guarenty that everyone has done the same runs and are in the exact same shape as you. the diference between 1st and 20th is whoever wants it more, nothing to do with stamina
Reply:I think stick with it and you'll be fine! :D i'm a freshman and i've been in xc for a few weeks--the first time i ran a 5K my time was 32:21 and the second time my time was 27:16 and my first xc meet was today and i got 25:43.

you'll get sooo much better and get in killer shape! have fun!
