How can i rum my mile under 6 minutes?

I currently run it like 7:50. I need to run it this fast so I have a better chance of making the freshman basketball team next year? Also i run out of stamina and my chest hurts when i run like half of a track, what should I do?

How can i rum my mile under 6 minutes?
you should jog it first and when it is almost over sprit it and while you do that remember what your doing this for so it well get you more fast, that is what i do

Reply:just keep on running long distances while timing yourself and don't give when you think you have no more just try and keep going trust me i've learned from my own experince and now when i run a mile i'm 5:20
Reply:practice wind sprints...it will increase your lunge capacity and you will run much faster.
Reply:Run a mile 5 times a week. Day 6, get to the track and run 10x100s. Run the straights fast, hard, controlled, relaxed. Then rest, recover, walk, jog the turns. Half-mile warmup and warmdown. Stretch.

Reply:they make u run sub 6 mins to make the basketball team? sprints are more important in basketball than a fast mile time...kinda stupid if u ask me....
Reply:Get in shape would help. I say that because running is it's own monster. Do a lot of stretching this will allow for a longer stride. Do 200 setup a day. Run three miles every day and then do a lot of 440 and 800 meter sprints.
Reply:well first see you doctor about those chest pains. you might have asthma but please don't take it from me it would be wrong and innacurate. so see your DR.

and if he says everything is ok start by jogging at a slowpace but long distances about 3 miles a day. and also do agilities what that is, is start from one piont and run about 20 feet in front of you back and forth back and forth real fast and time yourself.
