How can i train for track running?

I've recently decided to join th track team for my highschool for the spring. I've been running at least 2 miles a day for the past week on a treadmill at 6.0mph and i can't really feel a burn and i don't know if i should jog outdoors or anything. I want to know how to become faster, and what lengths to take it to. I've always been a fast runner but i can't seem to get the stamina to keep my speed in a long sprint. I do eat healthy.

run
Reply:run as much as u can daily... sometimes pace yourself to run a certain distance the whole time and sometimes you can run a certain distance as fast as u can or somethin.. try your best and good luck
Reply:increase milage in running everyday and increase speed
Reply:Treadmills=Bad

Run outside. You'll get more used to the elements, as well as the temperatures that you will race in. You could also go to your track and run there. Run all sorts of distance, short sprint repeats or long runs.
Reply:6mph (10 min per mile) is slow. First decide if you wan to do long distances 10K + or shorter.

Increase your speed gradually to about 8-9 m. p.h. and then increse the distance to 3-5 miles. A 5K in 20 minutes is decent to start, but you'll have to improve a a lot to compete at high levels.
Reply:go three to five miles and six miles an hour isn't very fast for high school standards try starting out with 8 mph by the way forget the treadmil run outside plan a run up and down your street or something just get outside trust me by spring you will be bored to death of staring at the same wall for twenty or thirty minute a day.
Reply:We have two kinds of muscles, the ones we use for short bursts, and the ones we use for the long haul. It seems you might be a distance or middle distance runner. The 400 and the 800 are the two toughest runs in track, you're going just about full speed for the whole race, but your full speed doesn't have to be nearly as fast as the sprinters'. From what you say, I'd work on them. Some people do walk-runs for their workouts....sprint hard, then walk. When you get yourself up to 400 or 800 of sprinting hard, and you have to work your way up, you might find an opening on your team for those distances, cause they're the hardest. There are relay races for those 2 events too, so the team needs like 6-8 kids for them. Good luck.
