What is a good way to start a running program?

I need to start running and build the stamina to run a fairly fast mile in seven weeks, i would like to know if anyone has any advice on how to get better at it. I live where there are a ton of steep hills and running those is difficult.

The previous guy is basically right. Build up some general fitness. Try cycling or something else aerobic for 20-30 minutes on the days that you aren't running. You may want to work in something faster around 2-3 weeks before you're timed for your mile.
Reply:The best way to start a running program is to start slowly. Little by little is the best advice. I would also get a new, good pair of shoes. I would go to a store that just sells running shoes but if not that then get a pair of Asics, they are the only orthopedic recomended shoe out there. I would probably start with a mile every other day and then bump it up to two and so on. Dont worry so much about speed at first just get a strong base. You need a big base to build a tall pyramid.
