I'm 16 years old and I have never played a game of tennis what are some good tips for getting started?

Ok so I've been getting into tennis more now then I ever have, I would love to start playing, and I run cross country so my stamina is pretty good. Does anyone have any good tips to help me get started?

if u want practice on handball court or racketball

Reply:Buy a racket that's not too expensive. And maybe watch a few tennis matches. I would start by finding a place in your house where there is plenty or room, and practice swinging the racket. (Yes, you might look kind of stupid but still!) Remember to never point your racket downwards, and practice pulling back and swinging so your racket ends near your ear. Just get used to the feel of the racket. Then, I suggest looking for a tennis instructor. Have fun and good luck!
Reply:Play up agaist a wall first with yourself. It will improve your skills. also hitting the ball in the air and then continually hitting it up trying to keep it up in the air really helps and it improves your hand-eye coodination. Hope this helps! If not, ask jeeves.
Reply:i play a bit of tennis and lemme tell u one tip.

the running is good but your arms. they will hurt A LOT.

so one good thing that you should do is to play tennis on the handball court with ur racket and a tennis ball. this way, your arms will hurt less before a game with your friends and you will get used to the hurting.
Reply:well...i know that many different clubs ((like a raquet club)) have classes and teams, so u could see how to start out!!! hope i helped!! =) %26lt;3 LAuReN
Reply:get some balls lol
Reply:ping pong
Reply:This might be dumb...but learn the scoring! Then watch some matches....it seriously will help if you can see what the pros do right and do wrong.
Reply:First take some classes to learn how to hold the racquet and how to strike the ball. Then practice against the wall. Then take some friends and play with them. I find the wall very helpful.
Reply:Be able to laugh.

At the high school I attended taking three weeks of tennis was mandatory and a lot of people disliked it just because they would miss the ball and get frustrated, I had a blast because I laughed it off.

It is frustrating when you first start, I never got anywhere with it, sports weren't my thing, I was a book worm, but it does help.
Reply:The best thing for you to do is to go to a Tennis coach and tell him that you want to get started. Also ask him what kind of rackets should you buy and he will tell you everything.

A coach is the best way to get started.

I am sure you will love tennis.

Good luck!
Reply:Just try hitting the ball, maybe get some lessons or play with some friends who can play tennis! Should help.

Tennis is a great sport to play! Good for you!
Reply:hit the ball against a wall
Reply:find a racket that is light to handle.

get yourself a good pair of tennis shoes-really helps while on a court. Start by practicing by yourself against the wall. First exercise-hit ball over net.

bounce-underhand...

maybe watch some other people play, or find an instructor. who would be able to teach you properly
Reply:yeah...you could use buyin (or even borrowin) a tennis racquet and a tennis ball, for starters.

alright lol, jokes apart, start with tappin (ball on racquet) and learn the diff grips you need to know for the strokes and those for service/smash. grips are probly the most basic n fundamental n important key for a start. and then the footing too.
Reply:just get some friends and go to a tennis court and practice.
Reply:get a personal trainer or take some beginner's course at your local rec center since those are cheaper and provide equipment
Reply:I have been playing tennis for many years. They best thing I did was to take a junior clinic at a local tennis club. They all offer them during school breaks and in the summer. It is important to learn the right grip and technique from the beginning since old habits will be hard to break. Spend the money and time to get into a local clinic. You will be glad you did. Good Luck Tony
Reply:short but best advice is .............. c and follow fedrer...watch the live and excludive tennis matches
Reply:When you serve don't bounce the ball on the court before you hit the ball for the serve.

PS: I used tohave a tennis court backround before I found this cool tie fighter backround.
Reply:Get a good instructor and have them get you going from the very start. That way you don't form any bad habits.
Reply:The first thing you gotta do is find a friend who is a good tennis player and or align yourself with a good tennis player, then find a hitting buddy, go out to your school courts when you can or an indoor facility and just hit around and let your hitting partner give your tips and what have you. Then ease yourself into some extended match play, work your serve out.....flat first serve, big spin second serve......find your best area, backhand, forehand, net, baseline whatever your most comfortable at. Work that area till you feel good in it. Then start to play competetivly and play for your school team.

Good luck.
Reply:take some lessons
Reply:Tennis is great, and will not require as much stamina as cross country. Just go out to a court with some friends and just hit it around. Try and get some friends to teach you scoring if you don't know.

Good luck!
