What should you do on your very fist gym work-out?

I have lapsed in my working out, it's been over a year since the last time I hit the gym and I have gained quite a bit of weight. I am going back this evening and I don't want to over exert myself. What should I do to work up my stamina. I used to go to the gym five or six days a week for 2 or more hours. I would do 60 minutes cardio (split-up), 30 miuntes strength training, and a 30 minute swim. I'm not sure how to go about getting back into this.

Do about 45 minutes of cardio, but do it slowly. Dont kill yourself. Then start out with weight training (light) about 2-3 times a week. Take it easy and slowly build yourself up. Keep in mind, taking it easy doesnt always mean go to the gym for 15 minutes. Go for the length of time you will stick with, just dont work as hard.
Reply:it's always a warm up for at least 5 mins.simple calisthenics will do.
Reply:Most if you pay your membership have trainers they let you have for free at least once to help you. Ask the guy your going to but they should have told you this!
Reply:Start easy. Don't over do it. As you get back into the routine you can then progressively do more and more.
Reply:Well when I started back I did 20min of treadmill and three exercises that hit major muscles and alot of minor muscles. Bench press for example. Take it real slow and listen to your body. You will feel better quickly.
