How do I get fit without gaining wieght?

I need to get in shape for field hockey in the fall but I'm already very skinny I just don't have any muscle. Our coach gave us some excercises to do over the summer but its mostly a lot of cardio and other wieght burning activities. Do you know how I can get fit and gain muscle and stamina without losing any wieght?

You have a bit of contradiction going there.

Eat a lot of lean meats, fruits, nuts, seeds. Protein bars and trail mixes are high calorie and energy boosting. Rice is also a good high calorie side dish. This should help in not losing weight, which is your latter request.

If you want to get fit without gaining weight, you'll need to lose more fat than muscle gained, as muscle weighs more than fat.
Reply:You can't gain muscle and not lose weight.

You can however eat how ever many calories you need to sustain your weight and include a lot of weight lifting. Don't worry about gaining so much muscle to the point where you look gross, it won't happen. 1-2 pounds of lean muscle is the max any human can possibly put on in a month. So try about 2200 calories, and weight-lift 3 times a week, and aerobics 3-4 times a week, all for 30 minutes at least.
Reply:u should try lifting wieghts, unless if ur under the age of 16. cus it causes u to stop growing (getting taller). but besides that ur going to gain wieght anyways since muscle wieghs more than fat
