Why does my heart rate jump when I walk up stairs?

Im 13, I am a tad bit chubby but I have a better than average stamina and can do things other fit people can do. But how come my heart rate goes up when I walk or run up stairs?

Why does my heart rate jump when I walk up stairs?
Well.. thats perfectly normal.. if the case is that u walk or run a LOT of stairs before your heart REALLY starts to pump.

Say, if u can climb 40-45 stairs on a trot without feeling a lot... u are fit enough.. but if ur heart tires out on say 25 steps, then u need a bit more stamina..(the case is if u r walking up the stairs).

This is because heart(and lungs)has to do more work than normal in making blood flow in arteries and veins. And also a bit more calories are burned while running upstairs than in a short sprint. You can check your 'vital capacity' by measuring the time u can hold ur breadth underwater.(compare the results of this exercise with ur friends, who have about the same physical routine as u have, and see who has more endurence :-) )
Reply:your heart beats faster because it takes more energy to walk up the stairs then to walk down or walking on a plane surface. its all science.
Reply:because you might be fit but the extra weight can still be a strain on your heart xxx
