I want to improve my balance, strength, stamina and muscle tone for getting back into riding after many years away from horses and riding.
Can anyone recommend a good exercise/fitness dvd for riders?
Try anything with core training. Any leg work especially adductor and abductor, squats for glutes. If you do any upper body work, for example bicep curls, do them on one leg and make sure ou switch your legs for each set. Any fitness dvd that includes a good lower body work wll do great but make sure you get a good core workout.
Reply:Pilates is really good for balance and muscle tone. I know it's a bit of a joke to a lot of people - it was a joke to me until my sister persuaded me to go. A one-to-one session is better than a DVD obviously - but any work on your core balance is going to help you in the saddle.
Also, a general fat-busting cardio workout is good for your allround fitness.
Reply:Charmayne James (barrel racer) does Pilates every morning. I think riding more does well for your fitness as well.
