To increase stamina you must do cardiovascular exercise. Any activity that gets you breathing hard and sweating should do. My suggestion is either start off walking and working up to jogging or do some hiking. If you carry a small pack and start on single mile trails for a few weeks you should be able to move up to harder trails and heavier packs.
Remember to try to work out your cardiovascular 5 times a week and always take 2 days off a week to allow your body time to heal.
Don't overdo it. The mantra of "no pain, no gain" is false. If you are hurting, slow down or shorten the amount of distance until you can do it more comfortably.

Any endurance activity, walking, running, swimming, hiking, etc.
